“Is Mexico safe?”
Those of who live in Mexico but regularly travel internationally FUCKING HATE THIS QUESTION, but since it always comes up, I may as well answer it.
If you are traveling to Mexico for the purposes of competing with the cartels, stealing from the cartels, or bothering the cartels in any way, Mexico can get very dangerous, very quickly.
If you are traveling to Mexico intending to drink or drug yourself almost to death, at which point you ordinarily become either irrational, violent, or incapacitated, Mexico can get very dangerous, very quickly.
But for those of us who know better than to bother dangerous criminals and who have graduated to handling our drinking and drugging like responsible professionals instead of deathwishing rookies, Mexico is no more dangerous than any other country in the world.
At least in the ways we think of “danger” and in the ways the media constantly presents about the “dangers of Mexico”.
I mean, Mexico IS dangerous, just in the “six thousand foot fall to a fiery death from a mountainpass road that understands the mountain part much better than the pass part or the road part” sort of way, not the “gunned down by cartels” sort of way.
